Getting Started
Cosmos Keeper is a voice-first journal. Simply speak into it — no prompts, no categories, no structure required. Your words are transcribed and stored privately on your device. The Thread Engine listens across your entries and begins detecting patterns automatically, surfacing the recurring themes and preoccupations that shape your inner life.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I create an entry? — Tap the microphone and speak. Your words are transcribed in real time and stored on your device. No typing required.
- What are threads? — Threads are recurring patterns the Thread Engine detects across your entries. They carry poetic names and grow stronger the more you return to them.
- What are wisdom cards? — When a constellation completes — every 10 entries — the Thread Engine weaves your own words into a beautiful reflection card. Wisdom cards are shareable on social media.
- What are thread collisions? — A thread collision occurs when one entry connects two threads that have never shared an entry before. They are rare and meaningful moments of convergence in your cosmos.
- What are constellations? — Every 10 entries create a constellation in your personal cosmos. Stars appear and thread lines connect them, forming a living map of your reflections.
- What is the Neural Nebula? — A brain-shaped cosmic cloud that grows as your constellations complete. Each user's Neural Nebula is entirely unique — a cosmic fingerprint of your inner life.
- What are Memorial Stars? — Permanent stars placed in memory of loved ones. They never fade or disappear, held forever in your cosmos.
- How does the free trial work? — All new users receive full access for 10 days. No payment required. After 10 days, you can subscribe to Stargazer ($6.99/month) to keep unlimited access to everything.
- Is my data private? — Yes. Your entries are stored locally on your device and never uploaded to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
- Can I use the app in other languages? — Yes. Cosmos Keeper supports English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Korean, Hebrew, Arabic, and Spanish.
Troubleshooting
- The app isn't transcribing my speech. — Check microphone permissions in Settings > Cosmos Keeper > Microphone. Ensure you are in a reasonably quiet environment for best results.
- I can't hear the ambient sounds. — Check that your device is not in silent mode and that volume is turned up. Ambient sounds can also be configured within the app's Settings.
- The Big Bang animation won't play. — The Big Bang animation plays only on first launch. It can be toggled on or off in Settings.
- My entries seem to have disappeared. — Don't panic. Cosmos Keeper creates automatic backups every time you open the app. Go to Settings → Data & Privacy → Restore from Backup and select the most recent backup. Your entries, threads, wisdom cards, and memorial stars will be restored.
- The app was "killed by the operating system." — This is called a Jetsam event — iOS closes apps that use too much memory, especially when many apps are running. Cosmos Keeper will automatically recover on the next launch. If any data appears missing after this, restore from your most recent automatic backup in Settings.
- I see a recovery alert when opening the app. — This means the app detected and recovered from a database issue. Tap "Restore from Backup" and follow the instructions to recover your entries from the most recent automatic backup.
Protecting Your Data
Your Cosmos Keeper is stored locally on your device. We take data protection seriously and have built multiple safety layers into the app, including automatic backups on every launch. To ensure your memories are safe:
- Keep iCloud Backup enabled — your Cosmos Keeper and its automatic backups are included in your device's iCloud backup.
- Export regularly — go to Settings → Data & Privacy → Export My Cosmos Keeper to save a copy you control. We recommend doing this at least every two weeks.
- Never delete the app unless you intend to erase your data. Deleting the app removes all entries permanently. Updating from the App Store is always safe.
- Restore from backup — if anything ever goes wrong, go to Settings → Data & Privacy → Restore from Backup to recover from the most recent automatic backup.
No electronic device or software can guarantee absolute data permanence. Mobile devices are subject to hardware failures, operating system behavior, and other factors outside any developer's control. Regular exports are the best way to ensure your memories endure.
